The Oscar-winning film director, Sir Peter Jackson, remains in hospital, recuperating from emergency surgery.

Sir Peter was admitted to Wellington Hospital with acute stomach pain on Wednesday night and was rushed into surgery for a perforated ulcer.

The health scare is not expected to affect Sir Peter's commitment to direct The Hobbit, beyond a slight delay to filming, due to start in February.

The film's publicist, Melissa Booth, says Sir Peter is recovering well and is expected to stay in hospital for a few more days before being discharged.
