A rescue helicopter has winched a father and son off their sinking fishing boat north of Cape Farewell.
The Summit rescue helicopter service says the pair were on a 13-metre boat in two-metre swells when the rescue took place at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Tasman Search and Rescue in Nelson and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Wellington also assisted.
The 49-year-old father was suffering from a medical condition and was treated on the helicopter as it transported him to Nelson Hospital.
