A television advertising campaign promoting Northland will be launched in Australia next week in an effort to draw more tourists to the region.
Contributions to the $300,000 campaign from local councils and businesses was matched by Tourism New Zealand.
The regional tourism promoter, Destination Northland, says the campaign is designed to encourage Australians to spend more time in the region, and travel beyond the Bay of Islands.
It says the commercials will promote tourism destinations like the kauri forests and Hokianga.
The Chair of Australia's Tourism Forecasting Committee, Bernard Salt, says more Australians are travelling overseas than ever before.
