Australia reconstruction work 'could lure NZers'

The Registered Master Builders Federation says skilled workers could be tempted to head across the Tasman to find jobs as part of the reconstruction effort in Queensland.

The floods in the Australian state are estimated to have caused billions of dollars' worth of damage to infrastructure.

The Federation says that with the building sector in New Zealand at a low ebb, builders are likely to be enticed to Australia.

But it says much of the work in Queensland won't start for a few months, so it's unlikely there'll be an immediate shortage of builders in this country.
