Police investigating the disappearance of a 19-year-old man in Coromandel say the body they have found will remain where it is until they have carried out a scene examination.
Search teams looking for missing man Cem Erbay found a body in bush at Matarangi on Monday afternoon.
Police say they are not yet able to confirm if it is that of Mr Erbay, who went missing from Whitianga in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Senior Sergeant Graham Shields says new information helped volunteers find the body.
He says they are keeping an open mind about the manner of death.
Mr Erbay had a heart condition and was prone to periods of disorientation, and a man matching his description was seen in Matarangi on Saturday.
