A boy who fell into a Rotorua thermal pool on Boxing Day has died.
The 10-year-old fell into the boiling hot water at Kuirau Park while on a visit to the site.
He was transferred to Auckland's Middlemore Hospital on Sunday night.
His condition was said then to be stable but serious, but it later deteriorated to extremely critical.
Middlemore Hospital management said after his death that his injuries were unsurvivable, and he died on Thursday afternoon with his family at his side.
Rotorua District Council has checked safety fences and warning signs at Kuirau Park and wants eyewitness accounts of how the boy fell in the pool.
The incident was not reported to the council or police at the time.
The council is urging visitors to the public park to take care.
