Time to fix anomaly in assistance - Victim Support

1:09 pm on 26 December 2010

Victim Support says it's time the Government cleared up an anomaly between the help available to families of homicide victims and that available to the families of road victims.

Members of the Crossroad Campaign are marking White Rose Day on Sunday in memory of family members killed by drunk or drugged drivers.

Victim Support chief executive Tony Paine says families of road victims miss out on financial help for travel to court, time off work and counselling that the families of homicide victims receive.

He says families of road victims he has spoken to ultimately feel that in some way the death of their parent or child is less important than that of others.

Tony Paine says it would not cost the government much to make things fair.
