The Rescue Coordination Centre says a couple have been rescued on the coast of South Fiordland after their vessel broke down.
It says the couple were picked up at about 5am on Thursday from the beach at Puysegur Point, about 140 kilometres west of Bluff.
The couple told the centre that their vessel had broken down and was drifting towards Milford Sound.
They later set off a rescue beacon but bad weather hampered a helicopter rescue attempt on Wednesday.
