A truck and trailer unit has rolled on the Lewis Pass through the Southern Alps, causing a blockage that will take several hours to clear.
Police say a crane may be needed to clear a 50 tonne loader which came off the trailer and is blocking the road at Kakapo Brook Bridge, between Horseshoe Lake and Glynn Wye Station.
Motorists are advised to delay travel over State Highway Seven or use an alternative route; either Arthurs Pass, or through Blenheim.
