Boil water notice issued for Queenstown areas

Queenstown Lakes District Council has issued a boil water notice for two areas as precautionary measure due to a pollution spill.

It has told residents in Kelvin Heights and Frankton residents to boil water until further notice because of a wastewater spill caused by a broken rising main at the Bay View pump station.

Council spokesperson Meaghan Miller says an unknown quantity of wastewater entered Lake Wakatipu.

She says although there is no visible sign of pollution, the boil water notice has been issued due to the proximity of the spill to the Kelvin Heights reservoir intake.

Contractor United Water are working on sanitising the immediate area.
