Driver pleads guilty to manslaughter

A man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a woman, who was hit by the car he was driving at Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast.

Kyle James, 37, appeared in the Levin District Court on Wednesday changed with manslaughter and excess blood alcohol.

The police say Mr James was three times over the legal alcohol limit at the time his car hit Shelagh Cotter, 69, who was picnicking with a friend by the side of the road on 30 October.

Mrs Cotter's friend, Marilyn Jeffery, 62, was seriously injured in the incident.

James has been remanded in custody, and will reappear in the Palmerston North High Court for sentencing on 22 February.
