Police in Waihi are concerned for the well-being of a missing elderly man who suffers from dementia.
Bryan Warrender, 76, was noticed missing by his family about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
Police believe a man seen pushing a mountain bike in the direction of Tauranga on State Highway 2 just before midnight may have been Mr Warrender.
They say there was heavy rain at the time and a motorist narrowly avoided hitting the man.
Mr Warrender was last seen wearing a grey jersey, blue shirt, brown corduroy trousers and gumboots. Police say he has no real concept of night and day.
