A survey suggests opposition to the national standards in reading, writing and maths is strongest among people who know more about them.
The UMR survey of 750 people found 36% are confident the standards will improve student achievement, 31% are not confident and 33% are undecided.
But only 41% said they know a lot or a fair amount about the standards.
Of that group, 38% were confident the standards will improve student achievement, while 46% were not.
Half of those surveyed agreed the standards have been rushed and should be delayed.
And half of the respondents who had primary or intermediate-aged children say they know little about the standards.
