Several homes were evacuated, a street was cordoned off and the Army bomb disposal unit was dispatched to investigate a possible bomb threat in the Hutt Valley on Saturday.
A resident in the Lower Hutt suburb of Kelson discovered two pieces of metal on his property which he mistook for bombs.
Senior Sergeant Steve Braybrook says a number of homes were evacuated and Ilam Grove was cordoned off for 90 minutes, before the alert ended.
