A specialist tracking dog is being sent to Kapiti Island, off Paraparumu, to try to find a stoat seen there two weeks ago.
The Conservation Department has set up 20 traps and 160 tracking tunnels, but there has been no evidence of the predator since a contractor reported seeing it.
The department says a stoat-tracking dog and its handler normally based in Northland arrived on the island on Tuesday for an initial four days.
