The Corrections Department has a new chief executive.
Ray Smith, head of Child, Youth & Family, has been appointed to the role for a five-year term.
He has held senior positions in social welfare for more than a decade.
The State Services Commission, which ran the recruitment process, says Mr Smith has experience implementing key government initiatives.
The commission says he has also lifted the image of Child, Youth & Family and improved staff morale.
Mr Smith begins his job in the new year, replacing Barry Matthews, who is retiring after almost six years.
