The Transport Agency is defending changes in fees for getting information from its Motor Vehicle Register.
From January, no information from the register will be free.
Almost all fees will be reduced to 20 cents or less, but odometer history checks, which had been free, will now also be on the fee schedule.
The agency says there were 18 million requests for information in the past year and the fee changes are needed because of the demand.
It says if it did not recover the costs from those who use the information, the agency would need to increase the licensing fees that all vehicle owners pay.
