Report on sinking of anti-whaling boat delayed

9:04 am on 16 November 2010

The former skipper of a New Zealand anti-whaling vessel is calling on authorities to release a report in to the sinking of his ship in the Southern Ocean in January.

The Ady Gil eventually sank after colliding with the Japanese whaling ship Shonan Maru No 2 while engaging in protests against the whaling fleet.

Pete Bethune says he received a draft copy of Maritime New Zealand's report almost two months ago.

He says he reasonably happy with the outcome, but cannot comment on the report's findings until it is released.

Mr Bethune says the delay means no one can be charged.

Meanwhile, Maritime New Zealand would not comment on the reasons for the delay, other than to say it expects to release the final copy in coming weeks.
