A Christchurch midwife has had her registration cancelled after being found guilty of six charges of professional misconduct.

The Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal found Mary Elizabeth Casey guilty of negligence, malpractice and bringing discredit to the profession. It says she displayed serious neglect and incompetence.

The six charges relate to Ms Casey's treatment of five patients between 2005 and 2008.

In one case, she forced a patient suffering from back pain to lie on her back; in another, she carried out an examination of a woman in labour without explaining what it involved.
