Comedian accused of sex charge to go on trial

The trial of a well-known comedian and entertainer begins in Auckland District Court on Monday.

The defendant faces a single charge of unlawful sexual connection.

The man's name and place of employment are suppressed to protect the identity of the complainant, a girl under the age of 12.

He denies the charge.

The case is set down to run for four days.

The defendant is on bail, subject to the surrender of his passport, his agreement not to apply for travel documents, to have no contact with any child under 16 without supervision and to have no contact with the alleged victim without proper oversight.
