Fed Farmers will appeal against Manawatu waterway plan

1:29 pm on 4 November 2010

Federated Farmers has confirmed it will appeal against a controversial council plan banning stock from Manawatu waterways.

Appeals against the Manawatu-Whanganui regional council's One Plan are due in two weeks' time.

In the final version of the One Plan, released three months ago, the regional council gave up planned restrictions on sheep and beef farming, and targetted the activities of 400 dairy farms.

Federated Farmers says it will appeal against a number of aspects of the plan, but won't yet give details.

Environmental groups say they are disappointed the plan was softened, but are not going to appeal because they are worn out by six years of arguing about it.

The Manawatu-Whanganui Regional Council says with the deadlinne approaching, no appeals have yet to be lodged.
