Some parents are concerned that almost $450 million in cuts to early childhood education will mean they will not be able to afford to send their children to the centres.
Parents and educators are holding community meetings across the country to voice their concerns about the changes.
Part of the cuts involve a reduction in the subsidies that childcare centres receive to pay registered teachers.
At a meeting in Christchurch last night, some parents were concerned they would have to remove their children from early education centres altogether if the centres increase fees.
The teachers' union, the NZEI, says more than 90,000 children will be affected.
