David Tamihere is to be freed from prison after serving 21 years of a life sentence for the murder of two Swedish tourists.
Tamihere was convicted of the 1989 murders Heidi Paakkonen and Urban Hoglin in the Coromandel.
Ms Paakkonen's body has never been found and Tamihere denies the killings.
The 57-year-old went before the Parole Board for the 14th time on Tuesday at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo.
He was supported by his lawyer, Murray Gibson, his wife Kris and his two adult sons.
In a decision released on Wednesday afternoon, the board says Tamihere will be released on 15 November, subject to 12 special conditions.
These include undertaking drug and alcohol counselling, attending a psychological assessment and electronic monitoring of his whereabouts.
