The husband of a Kapiti Coast woman who was injured in a crash that killed their neighbour on Saturday morning, wants the driver of the vehicle involved, charged with manslaughter.

Shelagh Cotter and Marilyn Jeffery were having coffee on the side of a rural road near Te Horo, south of Otaki, on Saturday when a stationwagon crashed into them.

Mrs Cotter died on Sunday in hospital and Mrs Jeffery is now at home.

Her husband, Don Jeffrey, says the driver should be charged with manslaughter.

Police say the driver was three-times over the drink drive limit.

A man, 37, from Lower Hutt has been charged with drink driving. He will appear in the Levin District Court on 25 November.

Police say more charges are likely.
