Emergency services are at the scene of a chemical spill in the Waikato, involving 600 litres of hydrogen peroxide.

The spill happened at 9.50am at the company EcoLab on Te Rapa Rd, Te Rapa.

The Fire Service says the hydrogen peroxide has been contained and St John Ambulance officers are at the scene as a precaution.

The area was cordoned off and one lane of Te Rapa Road closed, though a diversion is in place at the intersection of Vickery and Daniel streets.

Police say the clean-up is expected to be completed by Friday evening.
