Fire at Kawakawa Bay under control

Firefighters were returning on Thursday to a scrub fire at Kawakawa Bay, east of Auckland.

The fire, which started on Wednesday, burned out eight hectares and was was brought under control by eight fire crews and a helicopter.

The Fire Service says the site is on a hill behind the Kawakawa Bay settlement, but homes there have not been affected.

One crew remained overnight and another was to extinguish remaining hotspots on Thursday.
