Cruise industry warns it won't wait forever for new terminal

The cruise industry is warning that operators will start steering clear of New Zealand if plans for a new terminal are not cemented.

The Government has unveiled its plans for "Party Central" on Queens Wharf to be built for next year's Rugby World Cup.

There was hope when the site was purchased last year that it could also house a new cruise terminal.

Prime Minister John Key says it is becoming an increasingly desperate need to provide facilities for international tourists, but there needs to be more discussion.

Cruise New Zealand chairman Craig Harris says there needs to be a firm decision.

He says the time since the purchase of the wharf has been frustrating.
