Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says a fire which destroyed two classrooms at the kura kaupapa school at Hoane Waititi marae on Sunday night, is shattering.
Waatea News reports that police are treating the fire as suspicious, after reports a group of youths were seen loitering in the area earlier in the evening.
Dr Sharples says it was the first kura to be established and he helped set up the kura. He says he is devastated.
