Real estate studies mooted for schools

The real estate industry hopes to introduce real estate studies into secondary schools.

The Real Estate Institute and the industry's training arm, Real ITO, is working on level two and three qualifications which they hope will be introduced into selected schools next year.

Real ITO chief executive Lesley Southwick says most of the 17,000 registered real estate agents have entered the profession as adults, having already had another job.

She says the intention is to make sure a career in real estate is viewed in the same way as other jobs.

Ms Southwick says the industry has a high turnover and it is hoped that teaching the subject in schools will encourage young people into long-term careers.
