Bowls to battle for funding after poor Games

Bowls New Zealand says it will have an uphill battle convincing the sports funding agency to give it more money after its poor showing at the Commonwealth Games.

The organisation received $700,000 from Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC).

It was expected the 12 bowlers would win three medals, rather than the single silver medal they returned with.

Bowls New Zealand admits the result was not good enough and is auditing the team's performance in parallel with an assessment by SPARC.

It says it will meet SPARC in December to put its case for funding to attend the World Bowls Championships in Australia in 2012.
