The Fire Service is reviewing its procedures after an attack on a volunteer crew in the Marlborough Sounds.
Four fire fighters who were called to a reported car crash early on Sunday on the outskirts of Havelock, were surrounded by a group of about 20 drunken partygoers and assaulted.
Acting regional manager Peter Dempsey says such assaults are rare.
He says the incident will be reviewed to see if minor modifications to procedures are needed, but major changes are unlikely.
Three people were arrested and will appear in Blenheim District Court next week.
