Placenta lab results awaited

12:00 pm on 17 October 2010

Police investigating the discovery of two placentas in a remote location are yet to work out their origin.

The placentas were found on Tuesday in a creek bed in the Te Toto Gorge, south west of Raglan.

Police in Waikato say they are waiting for forensic analysis and reports on recent births, before deciding on how to progress their investigation.

They hope the results will show when the births took place.

Disposing of a placenta is not an offence.

However, police say they want to determine the safety of the children and women involved.
