QC applauds move to reinstate Queens Counsel

11:42 am on 15 October 2010

Auckland lawyer Stuart Grieve, QC, backs moves to bring back the title of Queens Counsel for the top tier of lawyers.

The former Labour government abolished the title two years ago, opting instead to replace it with the title of Senior Counsel.

But the Government is looking to reverse the change, with a bill to reinstate the title of QC passing its first reading in Parliament.

Mr Grieve says the move will stop what he calls the present confusion in court.

He says the judiciary often refer to senior litigators as Senior Counsel.
