The secondary teachers union has called off strike action planned for this week.
The Post Primary Teachers Association says the Ministry of Education has assured the union it has a good offer.
The union's members had planned to refuse to teach Year 11 students on Thursday.
PPTA president Kate Gainsford says it will hold off on this term's action until it has seen the ministry's new offer.
Ms Gainsford says action could still go ahead if the return to negotitating is not productive.
