Backlog caused by computer glitch delays flights

Computer problems at Virgin Blue caused delays for Pacific Blue flights in New Zealand for a second day, despite check-in and boarding systems returning to normal.

The glitch affected more than 100,000 passengers around Australia on Sunday, many of whom spent hours waiting at major airports after the system crashed about 8am on Sunday, the ABC reports.

Staff had to switch to manual check-in and boarding procedures and that meant long delays and some cancellations.

A Pacific Blue spokesperson says both flights within New Zealand and international flights would be delayed by between 30 minutes and two hours on Monday, as it catches up on the backlog.
