100 customers without power in lower North Island

10:08 pm on 22 September 2010

One hundred Powerco customers throughout the North Island are still without electricity on Wednesday night.

Earlier, 1000 customers had been without power. The lines company says electricity will be restored to the remaining properties on Thursday.

However, it says severe winds forecast for the lower North Island could bring more lines down.

Network operations manager Phil Marsh says anyone who has been off supply for a long time should contact their retailer and their case will be given a higher priority.

Mr Marsh says the nature of the storm means the picture changes all the time, but he is hoping for some calmer weather by the weekend.
