Stadium demolition delayed

11:27 am on 21 September 2010

Demolition work at Stadium Southland is postponed on Tuesday because of high winds.

Snow caused the roof of the stadium to collapse on Saturday morning.

An independent structural engineer will supervise the demolition and try to piece together the sequence of events which led to the failure of the roof truss system.

Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson is to meet city council officers and the directors of the stadium trust in Invercargill on Tuesday.

The Government is taking a keen interest in the inquiry, because it may point to wider structural issues in similar buildings around the country.
