The Rewarewa D incorporation in Whangarei says a proposed waste recycling plant will create jobs as well as meet its kaitiaki responsibilies as tangata whenua.
the $1.5 million project is a joint venture with recyclers CBEC and Materials Processing Limited.
Chairperson Mike Kake told Waatea News the incorporation wants to use its land next to the district council's transfer station to produce compost from green waste and to recover demolition material.
He also said there are also plans for a recycling shop and an environment education centre.
