Power has been restored to almost every home in Christchurch and most primary health care services have re-opened.
Orion says normality is beginning to return to the city with few customers remaining without power.
About 30 thousand homes were without power after Saturday's earthquake.
Chief executive of the power company Orion, Roger Sutton, says contractors have been working around the clock to restore services , and had all but achieved that.
However, water boiling warnings are still in place for some towns and rural areas.
The Canterbury District Health Board says nearly all primary care practices are now open and operating again in the city with the exception of High Street and Pacific Trust which are expected to open early next week.
It says the Akaroa and Lincoln hospitals remain closed but all other rural and city hospitals are open and functioning.
The DHB says people in Kaiapoi, Kairaki, Pines Beach and Malvern Hills should continue to boil water.
Port of Lyttleton 'operating normally'
The Port says it has managed to process its usual workload of about 5,000 containers a week.
However, more quake damage continues to be found and repairs are expected to cost tens of millions of dollars.
The port's chief executive Peter Davie says the damage is causing only slight operational constraints and supplies are still getting to affected areas.
