Hutt council cleared of playing favourites

The Auditor-General has found that the Hutt City Council is dealing appropriately with debts owed by commercial ratepayers.

Lyn Provost investigated after misgivings were voiced over Hutt City's handling of some debts, particularly those of property developer Terry Serepisos.

She has concluded that the council is using the right processes to collect the debts, with appropriate timeframes, and that there is no evidence of favourable treatment of anyone, including Mr Serepisos.

Hutt City Mayor David Ogden says the findings reflect the fact that he and the council have acted professionally and appropriately at all times.
