8:22 am on 26 August 2010

The wine industry will be looking to the future at its annual Romeo Bragato conference, starting in Blenheim today.

The conference, which is the major technical gathering for grape growers and wine makers, is focusing on economic recovery and lifting the quality of wine production.

New Zealand Winegrowers' science and innovations manager Philip Manson says growers and wineries are experiencing tough times.

He says they need to focus on quality to improve their future prospects.

Philip Manson says more than 700 people are expected at the conference, which ends on Saturday night with the announcement of the Romeo Bragato Wine Awards.
