Super council boss warns of transition problems

The head of Auckland's super city council is warning Aucklanders to brace for problems in the early days of the new council.

Interim chief executive Doug McKay, who will be at the helm for the first 18 months, told Nine To Noon there are bound to be things that go wrong when the city's eight councils merge into one on 1 November.

Mr McKay says with 2500 different software applications across the different councils, the most likely hitches will relate to computer systems, and could mean problems in access property or billing information, for example.

He says staff are aiming for everything to run smoothly but have to be realistic.
