Agreement with departing coach confidential - school

A Christchurch school says it is bound by a confidential agreement regarding the departure of one of its sport coaches.

The Christchurch Star has reported that a gay netball coach was sacked because his sexuality was at odds with Middle Grange School's Christian values.

The school's board of trustees chairman, Andy van Ameyde, says there was a problem with a male coach that resulted in arbitration through the Human Rights Commission earlier this year.

However, Mr van Ameyde says the details and outcome of the matter are confidential, and he was under the impression the coach in question was happy with that.

Mr van Ameyde says the coach was offered the role back after arbitration, but he had found another job.
