Man's body found in cinema seat after vampire movie

9:59 pm on 5 July 2010

A man died at a Wellington cinema complex on Sunday night.

Police say they're investigating the sudden death of the 23-year-old at Reading Cinemas on Courtenay Place.

They say the body was found in a cinema seat by a cleaner after a screening of the vampire movie Eclipse.

A post-mortem to determine the cause of death will be done on Tuesday morning. Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Miller says the man had no obvious injuries, and at this stage the death is being treated as suspicious.

He says they've identified the young man but won't release his name before notifying his next of kin - whom they're having trouble locating. The man appears to have lived in Wellington, Senior Sgt Miller says, but was somewhat transient, travelling throughout New Zealand.

The complex was closed while a scene examination was carried out.
