Public transport and parking fees about to rise in Wellington

7:29 pm on 5 July 2010

It's about to become more expensive to get around the capital.

Wellington Regional Council is looking at raising most train and bus fares by at least 50 cents and doubling the fare for the inner city bus route, to $2.

Parking fees will increase for motorists too. The daily price of coupon parking is going up from $5 to $7.50.

In addition, residents' parking is no longer available in the lower parts of Mount Victoria because these streets have been rezoned by Wellington City Council as part of the CBD.

Some now have to pay $7.50 per day to park their car outside their home, when other residents pay $115 per year.

However, the council plans to make more space for residents' parking in the suburb by converting coupon parks.
