Waikato police say no blame rests with the driver of a car that hit and killed a man who stepped out in front of it on State Highway 1 near Ngaruawahia.
Brendon Wilson, 20, died instantly after being struck by the car on Tuesday night.
Police say they are satisfied the driver was not to blame given the actions of the deceased and the weather conditions at the time.
It will now be up to the coroner to determine the cause of death.
Police investigated whether there was any connection between Mr Wilson's death and his involvement in a fight earlier in the evening, but found his injuries were consistent with being hit by the car.
