MetService says strong winds buffeting parts of Christchurch should ease on Sunday night - but accompanying rain from an easterly flow could last until Tuesday.
It says gusts of up to 75km per hour are being recorded on higher ground - with winds of around 50km per hour at Christchurch international airport.
