Police investigating the killing of a Chinese student are asking for help from the public to find a knife and various personal items.

The body of Jiayi Li, 18, also known as Kiko, was found in the boot of her car in Hamilton on 1 June.

She was last seen alive in the suburb of Kingsland, Auckland, on 19 May.

Two Chinese men, aged 18 and 20 years, are charged with her murder and another, aged 19, is charged with being an accessory.

Detectives are looking for a cook's knife with a black handle, a green or blue flip-top cell phone, and flat silver or white shoes.

Police say they believe Ms Li's killers threw these items from her car onto the roadside in West Auckland early on 19 May.

They also want to hear from anyone who saw her red Toyota Altezza car parked in a suburb in central Auckland the week after she went missing.
