Police issue fresh plea to identify train victim

8:12 pm on 2 June 2010

Police trying to identify a man struck by a train in Levin last week say they now have his first name - Alan.

Photos have been issued of the man, taken at the hospital bed where he is on life support after being struck by a train at 7pm on 28 May.

Detective Brenda Kelly of Levin says the photographs could be upsetting for loved ones, but it's important the man is identified, as he may not be from the area.

Ms Kelly says he mentioned the name Alan while an ambulance was taking him to Palmerston North hospital. He has since woken, and is unable to speak, but has nodded to confirm that Alan is his name.

Ms Kelly says finding out more about him could take days, because he can't speak and is in a great deal of pain. He is scheduled for more surgery on Thursday.
