A 10-year-old boy is in hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a car near Whangarei on Saturday night.
The crash happened on State Highway 1 at Kamo Road at about 5.30pm.
Police say the driver has been helping them with their enquiries, and alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
The boy is in a serious but stable condition at Starship Hospital in Auckland.
